VOYAGE DALLAS: Art & Life With Krizz'Tina Mitchell

"Today we’d like to introduce you to Krizz’Tina Mitchell."

"Krizz’Tina, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far?"
K:   I was born in Fort Worth and spent my early years moving from there to Dallas. I’ve always been naturally creative and drawn to unique things. Whether it’s paintings, people or my personal style I find that living outside of the box is the closest I’ll ever get to normal.
One of my passions for the past ten years has been beauty and helping people see how beautiful they are. I began my journey into the beauty industry by doing manicures and pedicures for my friends and the elderly! They were small favors, but it made a major impression on me hearing each person’s story and really getting to know them individually.
Slowly but surely, I made my way through the industry going from manicurist, hair stylist, model, makeup artist and finally a content creator! Although my YouTube came long before any of my cosmetic interest, it is now the primary platform where I am free to express myself and encourage others!
A year ago, I became very ill with no signs or warnings whatsoever. With that, my career as a makeup artist came to a complete hault. I went through some very low moments. Then I started creating content; makeup tutorials, reviews and demonstrations. Something I wasn’t sure would be permanent in my life gave me back my confidence—I was excited about my artistry and it made me really happy.
Now I use the experiences in my previous career fields to share knowledge and teach others the skills that I’ve developed over the years. It’s so awesome getting to encourage others and seeing how excited, even proud, they are to achieve their goals and grow! I may not be physically strong enough to do what I love, but being able to share it through video tutorials and photographs makes my heart glad!
"Can you give our readers some background on your art?"
K:  My art is makeup! I create makeup tutorials on my YouTube channel that cater to the needs of my audience as well as my creative itch! What I normally do is create tutorials, or videos, that people who are subscribed to me request! The reason why is because I want to teach what they want to learn. There’s no better way to appeal to people than to give them what they need right along with what they want; in a goofy, fun kind of way of course!
I sit in my bedroom in front of my background, which is now a huge collage wall, with my iPad mini and I film everything from super colorful eyeshadow looks to ‘how to put on faux lashes’. After recording, I take my computer to edit each video so that everything comes together efficiently. Save the video and upload it to YouTube as a brand-new tutorial!!
What I want people to take away from my channel is that it is absolutely marvelous to be one of a kind, because none of us are exactly alike. I’d also like for them to see that enjoying the gifts and talents we have can mean sharing them with others. There’s nothing like giving something to others! Whether it’s a smile, encouragement or even just something cool to watch for twenty minutes. My artwork is inspired by everyone and everything around me! Taking no moment for granted, it means a lot to me to allow my most wonderful influences to mold me.
"Do you think conditions are generally improving for artists? What more can cities and communities do to improve conditions for artists?"
K:   Right now, I believe more creatives are willing to be experimental. We are seeing people create these works of art that are both completely different from one another and far more artists are inclusive, which is a beautiful thing to see on all levels of artistry. In my opinion, this has made being an artist easier because having unique qualities is praised—which wasn’t the case even a couple of years ago.
Helping artists thrive? I would say give attention and opportunity more freely! Everyone doesn’t need the same platform, but many artists in our area are completely overlooked and it’s overwhelming because they are very good at what they do. If Dallas had as much opportunity and acknowledgement as other cities, like LA, many of us wouldn’t feel the need to change location in order to grow.
"What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?"

K:   I have a YouTube channel, Instagram and of course the infamous twitter! All of which are easily searched and found under my name, Krizz’Tina Mitchell!

XONECOLE: Real Women Share How They Rock Bold Lip Colors

"Lipstick is warpaint and the women who rock them boldly are always ready for war.
I love seeing women of all shades rocking bold lips. And depending on your undertone, it can be difficult to find the bold lip that best suits the color of your skin. A pretty pout can elevate any look, whether it's matte or glossy. Fun fact: If I'm making a shameless, late night Target run, I put on my favorite bold lip so I don't look as ratchet as I actually am. While chapstick and lip gloss is cute and all, take a chance by making a bold statement with your lips.
We rounded up some bold warpaint queens that kill it effortlessly. Check out how they rock their looks!"

"When it comes to my lipstick, I prefer to be spontaneous! Enough planning goes into my day, so lipstick is one of the things I'd rather get to be more playful with. I don't try to 'match' my makeup look or outfit. Instead, I simply complement my mood. If I'm feeling bold, I'll reach for my most vibrant lipsticks—they go on and stay on!"
"How do I rock bold colors? Naturally."
"Fenty Beauty's 'Midnight Wasabi is my favorite! Not only is it a delicious shade of my favorite color, green, but it's the perfect balance between a bold color, rich formula, and gentle tone. I can wear it knowing I'm rocking the best of both worlds; professional and casual."
